This could easily be one of my favorite outfits in the blog this year. It was a litttle bit inspired by 2 Tone or Ska punk, which was a revival of ska in the 70s in Britain.  This wave was visually characterized by checkered prints and suspenders, cropped trousers and shiny black shoes.

I love stepping outside my own boundaries and trying new silhouettes every now and then, that’s why I wore these uber mega wide pants from Cinq a Sept. I went a little bit playful matching this cool vintage racing tee with the suspenders and added some patent chunky shoes. I love love the checkered ludic element in the ensemble, I think it actually ties everything together, ironically but in a cool way.

Now the main focus of this post is that checkered trend I’ve seen grow in the past few months. Honestly there has been so many new trends borrowed from different subcultures, mainly low to middle working classes in the 70s and 80s, such as this major hip hop influence in fashion right now and / or the post-soviet aesthetic. Ska is definitely one of those too, fashion in 2017 is borrowing the checkered print and this elegant punk aesthetic and turning it into something more ironic, which is why it seems actual. I honestly have always been inspired by old movies when I dress up, so it feels like I’m just re exploring my creativity.

So lately I’ve been getting anything I see that has checks on it. I don’t know why I love it so much, its such a cool print that can be matched with just straight black or any bright colors. If you follow me on instagram you probably saw my checkered iphone case, and probably some of tees with checks on it. So I put together my top 5 favorite checkered pieces below for you guys to check out!

1.  Iphone Case – this. case. I can’t live without it now. My iphone looks so cool and its really great quality.

2. Etsy Suspenders – the ones i’m wearing in this post. I have so many more ideas on to pair these and can’t wait to play around more.

3. Unif  pants – I don’t own these, but might get a pair right after I finish writing this post. I’ve been eyeing them for so long.

4. Vans Checkered Slip ons – I recently got the old skool vans but I want these so badly. You can never have enough sneakers and these would look so cool with an all black look.

5. Oversized checkered shirt – you know how much I love me vintage oversized blouses, but I haven’t seen this one ever. It would look so cool with high waisted shorts and a black bandeau crop or even all buttoned up with some chunky platforms… besides its so affordable.
